TODAY'S Carson Daly admitted he previously warned Gwen Stefani to not date Blake Shelton because she's "too good" for him.
Carson, who is very close friends with Blake, 44, and Gwen, 51, admitted on Thursday that he wasn't too sure of the country singer.
During this morning's Today Show with Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie, Carson recalled how he sat down with both Gwen and Blake to talk about their relationship five years ago.
He told Gwen: "You and I have very unique proprietary information regarding your relationship with my friend, Blake. And I was reminded of a story this morning that I'll share with everybody.
"Five years ago when you started to date Blake – you'll remember this – I took you, we went back to your old house in LA, and I sat you both down in the kitchen and said: 'You guys, pump the brakes, this is not good.'
"And I looked at Gwen and said: 'You're much too good for this guy. You're smart, you're intelligent, you're one of my oldest friends and then there's Blake.'"
An amused Gwen said Carson's story gave her "this wave of almost having a heart attack" as she described Blake as "such a good guy" who gave her "a chance of happiness."
"Yes, Carson, you witnessed that!" she added. "It's just so weird how things happen and you just don't see things that are right around the corner after such, like, devastation, you know what I mean?"
When Kotb asked if Gwen was shy about getting remarried after she was granted an annulment to her marriage from Gavin Rossdale, she said there's a lot to consider "when there are so many people involved."
Gavin, 55, is the father of her three kids, Kingston, 14, Zuma, 12, and Apollo, six, and she was married to him from 2002 to 2015.
"You know, children and their hearts and everybody in my family and his family, we all went through a lot together," Gwen said.
"So, I think that in a romantic way, when you fall in love so hard and so unexpectedly and so late in your life – I think you can relate to this – you think 'I want to marry you, like, now!' That's the first romantic reaction."
But the singer acknowledged that there was "a lot of healing to do" before getting engaged.
Gwen admitted that she had started to get a bit insecure about Blake proposing but said he popped the question "right on time."
Gwen is a devout Catholic, whose faith only allows her to re-marry if the first marriage is annulled.
The annulment was "finally been granted," after Gwen requested it in March 2019, according to US Weekly.
"Gwen was told the decision was made by the Vatican tribunal," an insider told the site.
"She will be receiving the notification in writing in the next few weeks, but it’s official.
"It was a huge relief for Gwen because she wanted to get married by her priest and have the marriage recognized by the Catholic church."
Blake proposed to Gwen last October and the couple – who met on The Voice in 2015 -– are reportedly planning to marry early this year.
After spending much of the coronavirus pandemic together on Blake's Oklahoma ranch, it is believed they want to get married there.
A source told Us Weekly that Blake has even had a chapel built on the grounds there.
The country crooner popped the question with a customed-designed engagement ring, which is reported to be worth at least $500,000,
Gwen announced their engagement flashing her diamond ring and sharing a kiss with the country star.
She also added the caption: "Yes, please!”
