Macaulay Culkin was a famous child actor in the 1990s, mainly due to his performance in Home Alone. It is worth noting that his youngest sister, Quinn Culkin, also appeared in the movie alongside him as a girl in the airport.
Macaulay and Quinn were raised in a big family, along with plenty of other siblings who were also part of the film business.
Macauley started his acting career at four and became a child star after his breakout role in the hit movie Home Alone in 1990. He continued to act in several other films, including My Girl, The Good Son, Richie Rich, and Saved.
He has also dabbled in music, starting a band called The Pizza Underground in 2013, which disbanded in 2018. He has also appeared in music videos for various artists, including Michael Jackson’s ‘Black or White’ and R.E.M.’s ‘Imitation of Life.’
In this article, we will talk more about Quinn and the Culkin siblings. Stick to the end to know also about their childhood struggles.
Culkin Siblings and their family film profession
The Culkin siblings are a family of seven children born to Christopher Cornelius “Kit” Culkin and Patricia Brentrup. The most famous Culkin sibling is Macaulay has six siblings, including four brothers, Kieran, Rory, Shane, and Christian, and two sisters, Dakota and Quinn.
The Culkin family is all part of the movie industry. Their father was also a former Broadway actor too.
One of the Culkin siblings, Kieran, is also an actor who has appeared in movies such as Igby Goes Down, and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and is younger than Macaulay. He also has appeared in Home Alone films as Kevin McCallister’s younger cousin, Fuller.
Before securing the role of Roman Roy in the highly regarded HBO series Succession, Kieran maintained a steady presence in film and television. His portrayal in the show earned him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2020.

Rory is also the younger brother of Macaulay and an actor himself. He started acting as a child and appeared in several movies with his siblings, like the 1993 film The Good Son and the 2000 film You Can Count On Me.
In 2002, Rory got his first significant role in the movie Signs. He continued acting in film and TV, with notable performances in Columbus and Lords of Chaos. He also played Joel Schumacher in the Netflix series Halston.
Dakota, the second oldest child, was also involved in the entertainment industry as an actor and producer before she passed away in 2008 at the age of 29 in a car accident. She had worked in a horror movie, Lost Soul.
Her Lost Soul co-worker and friend, Andrea Poe, described her as witty and down-to-earth. Macaulay has named her child ‘Dakota’ with partner Brenda Song in memory of his sister. “We’re overjoyed,” the couple told Esquire about welcoming their baby boy.
Shane Culkin, the first Culkin sibling, shares a name with his father’s favorite movie, Shane (1953). Like his siblings, Shane pursued acting at a young age. However, his only known credit is a 1989 role in the TV series Great Performances, where he played Wally Webb in the episode Our Town.
Christian Patrick Culkin is the sixth child of the seven Culkin siblings. He is an actor and appeared only in one film named It Runs In The Family with his brother Kieran. Christian received a Master of Fine Arts from the Feinstein Graduate School of Cinema in 2018.
However, Christian seems to have left the film industry just like his sister Quinn.
What is Quinn Culkin doing now?
Quinn was born in New York City and was named after her dad’s friend, a father figure to him, and was named Kay after her maternal grandmother.
Born November 8th, 1984, Quinn is recognized for her roles in several productions, including The Good Son in 1993, Wish Kid in 1991, and The Good Son: Featurette in 2004.
Earlier, she worked with her in Home Alone with Macauley and played Macaulay’s sister in The Good Son in 1993.
According to her recent interview with Vanity Fair, she said, “I’ve actually had people tell me when they watch, ‘Oh, he’s not really acting. He’s just being himself.’ I’m like, ‘You don’t know him. He’s not like that.'”
Quinn admitted that while growing up, her brother was known for challenging anyone in authority. She added that the character he plays on screen is not him, although it is similar to him.
She mentioned, “My brother definitely has more heart than that. I’ve seen him play the bully and the bullied because I think he’s capable of being both.”
Quinn attended Hunter College from 2004 to 2008, the International Culinary Center in New York from 2007 to 2008, and currently studies at New York University for a certificate in Hospitality.
According to her LinkedIn profile, she works as a catering chef for Hot and Ready Productions Inc. in the United States. She has worked as a chef since 2012.
Culkins had not so good childhood
The Culkin siblings and former child stars had vastly different experiences growing up in their family.
With Vanity Fair, Kieran described the difficult living conditions in the Culkin family’s railroad apartment on East 94th Street and Second Avenue in New York, where they lived for the first nine years of his life.
The apartment was barely suitable for a couple, with no separating doors except for the bathroom, which didn’t have a lock. Despite this, the family raised seven children in the cramped space.
Kieran recalls a rough-and-tumble atmosphere, with some siblings attending school while others did not. They would watch wrestling matches and then imitate them.
Their mother, Patricia, instilled family values and traditions, but their father, Kit, was allegedly a domestic tyrant, causing a rift between him and his children.
“He’s not a good dude, but he wasn’t really a big part of my life after the age of 15,” Keiran said to Vanity Fair. “Sometime in the 90s, he went away and disappeared for two, three weeks, and the babysitter remarked to my mom, ‘You know what’s funny is their father’s been gone for three weeks, and not one of them has said, Hey, where’s Dad?'”
“Nobody cared, actually. My mom was the parent, so when he wasn’t there it was nicer and better,” he added.
Despite their difficult upbringing, the Culkin siblings maintain a close relationship with one another. Both Kieran and Macaulay have distanced themselves from their father, with Macaulay taking his parents to court over control of his earnings and eventually becoming estranged from his father.
