A COUPLE were labelled “riff raff” by a restaurant after branding their prawns “rubbery” in a review.

Jason and Jo Savage blasted The Oven in Middlesbrough after what they said was a “disaster” date night.

Jo, 46, told Gazette Live she ordered prawns for her main meal – even though there were none on the main course menu.

And Jason opted for the parmo – a breaded meat cutlet topped with cheese that is popular in the north east.

But the pair said they were left disappointed with their meal, with “prawn connoisseur” Jo saying her food was “rubbery” and branding her partner’s nosh “greasy”.

The couple complained and reportedly received a refund for their food.

But still upset after leaving, the mum-of-one said she complained again on Facebook.

The review sparked a response from the restaurant which saw the couple branded “riff raff” who staff did not want to serve.

The message read: “When you arrived at 9.15pm, the waiter didn’t want to serve you based on your appearance, against our better judgement we did!

“You received eight prawns, ate six of them and then sent two back and complained they were disgusting after you’ve eaten the majority and some of your husband’s parmo – no wonder you couldn’t fit in the last two prawns!

“We then took your meal off the bill – free of charge – yet you have the front to say we are a disgrace!

“Hey ho! Lesson learned, always trust your better judgement, next time we will protect our customers from riff raff.”

Jo said she felt “sick” after reading the message, insisting she had “never ever been called riff raff”.

She told the local paper: “It has shocked me to my core – I felt degraded and disgusted.

“We lived in Dubai for five years – we are not riff raff.”

She also insisted she and Jason were “dressed smartly” in their new Christmas garb.

But the restaurant stuck to their guns, refusing to apologise and insisting staff “bent over backwards” to please the couple.

A spokesman for The Oven said the pair would not be welcomed back, while Jo insisted they have no plans to return.
